Abstract :
This study was conducted to determine the insecticidal activity of microwave radiation on the T. castaneum adults, and microwave radiation was applied on the adults at different power and exposure times. Increasing mortality was observed depending on the rising power of radiation source and exposure time . Complete mortality of adults occurred at 360 W and 120s exposure time. Mean longevity of adults decreased with increasing power and exposure times. The mean longevity calculated as 10.56 day for control group, but this rate decreased to 1.26 day after exposure to 150 W for 300s. LT50 and LT99 values were estimated as 225 and 389s, respectively at 150 W, but these values decreased to 16 and 32s at 900 W. Current study showed that the stored products contaminated with T. castaneum could be disinfected with microwave radiation in a short period.
