Abstract :
This study aims to analyze the effects of silicon on some physiological and macromorphological parameters during initial growth phases of Oryza sativa L. and Capsicum annuum L. which were incubated by germination techniques in in vitro media. Silicon applied at increasing concentrations did not cause any significant change in germinating rates of seeds of Oryza sativa L. cv. Kıral, Osmancık-97 and Baldo genotypes, and Capsicum annuum L. cv. Çetinel and Ilıca genotypes incubated under photoperiodical induction and dark conditions. There was no statistically significant change in germinating rates of seeds of Capsicum annuum L. cv. 11B-14 genotype left for germination under photoperiodical induction. Silicon applications led to statistically significant differences for C. annuum cv. 11B-14 root fresh weights, C. annuum cv. Çetinel root dry weights and cotyledon fresh and dry weights, O. sativa cv. Osmancık-97 root fresh and dry weights, O. sativa cv. Baldo hypocotyl and root fresh and dry weights and sheath dry weights under photoperiodic induction. There were also statistically significant changes on the lateral root developments of O. sativa cv. Kıral and Osmancık- 97 and C. annuum cv. 11B-14 seedlings under photoperiodic induction and O. sativa cv. Baldo and C. annuum cv. Çetinel seedlings under photoperiodic induction and dark conditions. All these changes occurred in the morphological and quantitative development parameters were observed to have significant effects at genotypes level.
