Title Of Article :
Determination of optimum insulation thicknesses for heating and cooling loads in four different climatic regions of Turkey
Abstract :
In Turkey, most of the consumed energy in residents is used for heating – cooling purpose. This determination proves that high amount of energy can be saved in residents by heat insulation applications. In insulation applications the determination of the most economical insulation thickness is very important. In this study, optimum insulation thicknesses for heating and cooling loads in 4 selected cities of Turkey (Aydın, Edirne, Malatya and Sivas) and also energy savings. In the outer wall, XPS (Extruded polystyrene) and EPS (Expanded polystyrene) were selected as insulation material. Natural gas was selected for heating and electricity was selected for cooling. The economical dimension of the study was analyzed by P1 − P2 method. The results show that the optimum insulation thickness interval is 0.036 and 0.1 m and the energy savings interval as 12.08 TL/m² and 58.28 TL/m² and payback period interval 1.5 and 2.52 years depending on the selected insulation material.
