Title Of Article :
Effects of some cations to the surface properties of silicates (feldspar and quartz)
Abstract :
In this study, influence of some metal cations (Al^3+, Ca^2+, Na^+ and K^+) on surface properties of feldspar and quartz among silicate minerals, and how this influence changes in environments including fluoride (F-) have been investigated. Therefore, zeta potential measurements have been made in environments including these metal cations and in different pHs. As a result of zeta potential measurements, it has been identified that the effect of single-valued metal cations is at a low level, and that bivalence calcium cation is absorbed in basic pH values and trivalent aluminum is absorbed in all pH levels on mineral surfaces, and changes surface sign and charge. When these effects on feldspar and quartz surfaces are compared, it has been seen that aluminum cation between pH 2-3 (HCI/HF) affects feldspar and quartz surface properties in different ways and causes a slight difference.
