An investigation of the noise differences in the settlement areas of Düzce

Noise pollution has become a significant factor which affects human health living in urban areas. Currently, noise which originates from humans, vehicles, construction sites and industrial sites is a type of continuous roaring in urban areas. Within the scope of this study, noise measurements were made for twelve month on the streets and boulevards located within the boarders of the Municipality of Düzce, the statistical analysis of the obtained values was carried out in terms of the time zones and seasons. The purpose of this study is to create a noise map for the daytime and evening periods related to the seasons as a result of making noise measurements during the day and in the evening for twelve months on the avenues and boulevards of Düzce; to determine the regions which approach or exceed the maximum noise levels with the interpretation of this map; to associate and interpret the zones with noise differences with the type of urban use; and to present various solutions in order to minimize the negative effects in the zones where the allowed values are exceeded or approached. Within this study, there are differences among the settlement areas of the city Düzce, these differences are statistically significant in both day and night periods of each seasons and in day and night periods between seasons. The hypotheses are proved that the differences are caused as a result of using areas in different ways according to seasons and day time.
