Organic priming applications in watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. Nakai)

This study was conducted to determine the potential using of organic derivated priming (pre-germination) materials on watermelon seeds. In research, organic crop resources were used in watermelon priming firstly. Laurel (Lauris nobilis L.), thyme (Thymbra spicata L.) and seaweeed (Ascophyllum noduum (L.) Le Jolis) extracts were used in watermelon priming. First time, thyme and seaweed priming applications were resulted successfully in watermelon seeds. Growing of seedlings after organic priming were obtained earlier and shorter seedling development. Hence, it was concluded that organic derivated priming materials (laurel, thyme and seaweed) were used successfully instead of chemical priming without negative effect on watermelon seedlings. Thyme and laurel and seaweed were used effectively in watermelon seed priming and best results were obtained from thyme and seaweed priming application. At the end of research, natural-green plant resource have been used successfully in seed industry and technology.
