Abstract :
In the present study, protective effect of grape seed extract against toxic effects of dinicanazole on Swiss albino mice was investigated. For this aim, we used the frequency of micronucleus, abnormal metaphase number and mitotic index, Alanine transaminase (ALT) , Aspartate transaminase (AST), Malondialdehyde (MDA) and Glutathione (GSH) level as indicators of toxicity. Animals were randomly divided into six groups of six animals each. Grape seed extract was applied with two different doses (50 and 150 mg/kg) and dinicanazole was treated with the dosage of 474 mg/kg. Besides AST, ALT, BUN and creatinine levels in dinicanazole treated group were 2.12, 1.6, 1.78, 1.6 times higher compared to control group, respectively. Liver GSH level was decreased as 37.8%, compared to control group; Liver MDA level was inreased as 65.3%, compared to control group. Oral treatment with grape seed extract significantly ameliorated the indices of toxicity induced by dinicanazole. The results obtained from this study suggest that grape seed extract is an effective protective agent against dinicanazole induced toxicity.
