Abstract :
Objective: In our study, the frequency of anemia in all three trimesters of multiparous pregnant women was examined. Materials and Methods: Multiparous pregnant (Group I-II-III) women at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy and healthy non-pregnant women (Group IV) were included in the study. Iron, ferritin, hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Htc) levels were evaluated. Results: When anemia rates were evaluated in all pregnant groups based on hemoglobin, it was found to be 24,2% and, it was found to be 20,8% when it was based on ferritin. Hb Htc and ferritin levels were found to be significantly lower in group I compared to the control group. Iron, ferritin, Hb and Htc levels were found to be significantly lower in group II and III compared to the control group. There was a significant decrease in Hb, Htc and iron levels in Group II and III compared to Group I when all groups were compared among themselves. Ferritin was found to be significantly decreased in Group II. When Group II and Group III were compared there was no statistical significance between Hb and Htc levels. Iron was significantly higher and ferritin was lower in group II. Conclusion: In multiparous pregnant women, each trimester should be evaluated carefully in terms of iron deficiency anemia and pregnant women should be informed. When focusing on the negative effects of iron deficiency anemia, it was decided to consider this as a public health problem and to take precautions.
