Abstract :
The Flute became an instrument in the 20th century that received a lot of interest both by composers and performers which was as a result of inventions that changed timbral and techniqual possibilities of the instrument. The flute which was the most preferred instrument during 20th century music enlarged it’s repertoire that included a lot of extended flute techniques. In this article, four solo flute pieces namely C. Debussy – “Syrinx”, E. Varése – “Density 21.5”, L. Berio – “Sequenza” ve B. Ferneyhough – “Cassandra’s Dream Song” were researched and the usage of the extended techniques on 20th century solo flute music repertoire was also studied.
