Abstract :
Istanbul could not come into its own in the context of both the income and the tourist numbers despite It has some advantages such as historical places and natural beauties, strategic location and adjacency to the convention market. To understand the reasons why the scope of research, superiority and weakness of İstanbul were determined by comparing with the closest competitors Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna and Singapore on 36 factors is contemplated by that measuring the degree of competition. The research was concluded that comparative competitiveness of Istanbul is not superior than ıts competitors. In addition, historical and cultural richness, shopping facilities, hospitality, variety of products, beauty of the natural environment and general attractivenes have been found strong but harmlessness of natural disasters, war and terrorism, sea and beaches, the efficiency of transportation, powerful state and barrier-free bureaucracy, political structure, the marketing-competition strategies and infrastructure factors have been found weak.
