Abstract
In order to be successful in planting designs that are to be applied on urban areas, first of all a choice of type that is suitable for region conditions and field must be done. Compositions to be formed should enrich the physical structure of the field and create aesthetic effects. It is especially should to make choices that are suitable for the identity and character of the field in planting designs that can be applied in important cultural-history urban areas. For this purpose, analysis of the use of espalier within historical process was done and determined principles of practice. Various Espalier samples were given and their applicability on urban protected area located in the city centre of Çanakkale was studied. 15 trees- and 21 shrubs ornamental plants in the form of bush which are suitable for espalier in Çanakkale were specified and their characteristics and utilization opportunities were determined.
