Abstract
Ti6Al4V titanium alloy is an important engineering material widely used in various industries (mainly in aerospace) due to its superior properties. However, its low thermal conductivity, low chemical inertness and low modulus of elasticity make it difficult to machine. In this study, wear of solid carbide drill bits was investigated in drilling Ti6Al4 titanium alloy. Drilling operations were performed at a constant cutting speed and a constant feed rate using the three different drilling methods. These drilling methods were direct drilling (without pecking), 1 mm plunging and 2 mm retract and 1 mm plunging and full retracts. Among the drilling methods 1 mm plunging and full retracts resulted in lowest wear.
