Surgical Clinic Patients’ Satisfactions with the Student Nurses
Abstract :
The descriptive research was carried out in surgical clinics of a university hospital between 1-25 May, 2007, which was designed to determine the level of patients’ satisfaction with the student nurses. The sampling of the research consisted of 173 patients, 18 years of age and above, willing to participate in the research, with communication ability, literate, seeing the apprentice nurses in the practice field at least two weeks during their working hours in the hospitals. The data was gathered by means of the question form,formed with the help of the scale Patient’s Satisfaction with The Nursing Services, developed by Demir and Eşer, and evaluated by percentage distribution. 64.2% of the patients in the research are male and 41.6% graduates of primary school. It was concluded from patients’ explanations that 41.6 of the apprentice nurses introduced themselves to the patients; 48% gave discharge training to the patients; 51.4% performed invasive procedures with great success; 59.5% informed the patients before any practice; 65.3% received patients’ approval before any practice and 68.2% informed the patients about the vital finding measurements. The patients also noted that 88.4% of the nurses listened to them carefully; 87.9% respected their privacy and 87.3% held them in high esteem.It can be concluded from the study that surgical patients were satisfied with the student nurses.
