Abstract :

Emotional intelligence consists of the abilities like knowing own emotions, managing emotions, motivatingoneself, being empathic and handling relationships. The problems that arise during the development of emotional intelligence play an important role in the occurance of both interpersonal relation problems and profession unsucces. Therefore, emotional intelligence should be developed in nursing students. This descriptive research was designed to determine emotional intelligence level of students of Atatürk University Nursing School. Data were collected using of information form and “Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale” developed by Hall. The universe and sample of the research was consisted of 336 students attended at Atatürk University Nursing School in Fall semester 2007-2008 academic year. The final sample group was eighty-eight percentage of the target number. The data were analyzed using percentage, t-test, variation analysis and Tukey tests. The results showed that emotional intelligence of the students were moderately. Emotional intelligence in the senior nursing students were higher than students.
