Validity and Reliability of Turkish Version of Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale–New Mother Form (RHD-NMF)

As hospital lenght stay has decreased, to need to assess readiness for discharge of mothers has become increasingly important. This is a methodological study for aiming at adapting the “Readiness for hospital discharge scale –new mother form” into Turkish and to test its validity and reliability. The study group was 230 women who gave vaginal delivery. After the translation procedure, validity was asessed with content validity and construct validity. Reliability was assessed with internal consistency and item-total score correlation. The factor loading was between 0.34 and 0.86 in the factor analyses of Turkish form. The difference between total scores of known groups were important (p 0.0001, p 0.001).Total scale cronbach alfa reliability coefficient was 0.70 and item-total score correlations were betwen 0.21-0.53 (p 0.01). The Turkish version of Readiness for hospital discharge scale –new mother form seems to be reliable and valid measure of assesing readiness for discharge from hospital in women who gave vaginal delivery , as long as taking into account its imitations.
