Title Of Article :
Informative Approach to the Patients Exposed to Ear Surgery on Home-Care
Abstract :
The study which was planned to be decriptive to define an informative approach to the patients exposed to ear surgery about home-care, was performed on 117 patients exposed to mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty and stapedectomy operations in the otorhinolaryngology departments of two public hospitals in Istanbul between July-October 2007. Data were assessed by percentiles. In the study during which more than half of the patients are informed about home-care, it is stated that most of the patients are informed by doctors and doctors have the highest demand among the health professionals who can provide such information. When informing patients orally is the more preferred way than informing with written materials, mostly given information is about taking medicine regularly/often, keeping head dry, not washing hair and not taking bath next week or sometimes more than a week after the surgery, and dressing applications. While more than half of the patients are informed, it was seen that the content of information given to patients is very limited as compared to the literature and it is not preferred to provide written materials in the subject, the doctors take more active role in informing the patiens than the nurses do.
