Determination of the Difficulties of the Families Whose Babies Hospitalized In the Newborn Intensive Care Unit
Abstract :
This research is a descriptive study made to show the troubles that families face whose newborns were hospitalized at the Newborn Intensıve Care Unıt of the XYZ Hospital. This research covers a total of 45 volunteered families. To collect the required data, a-44-question “Determination of the Difficulties of Families Whose Babies Hospitalized in the NICU” questionnaire was developed by the researcher through assessing the literature and performing the group-focused study with the newborns’ families. Percentile and Chi-square tests were used in the analysis of the data. In this study, it is found that the families whose newborns hospitalized in the NICU face some stressful events such as, not receiving enough info from the hospital staff, not being allowed to see their infants in the NICU whenever they want, adaptation problems to the newborn’s situation, the care and the treatment given to the infants and the uncertainity in the newborn’s health and gaining the parental role.
