Nursing Students’ Individual and Professional Values
Abstract :
This research was conducted to determine nursing freshmen individual values at the beginning and the end of the academic year and professional values at the end of the academic year and also was conducted to present the data that shed light on nursing curriculum at the higher class. The research was realized as cross-sectional and longitudinal with nursing freshmen registered 2009-2010 academic year. Data were collected by using an “Information Form”, “Value Preferences Scale”, “Nurses Professional Values Scale” and “Professional Value Preferences Scale”. Nursing freshmen would prefer social values as individual values at the beginning and the end of the academic year. They prefer human dignity as professional values and view all professional values as significant. These results indicate that professional behaviors of nursing freshmen have ethical principles and values and results are important to shed light on structuring nursing curriculum, too.
