Abstract
Objective: This study aims to understand the effect of domestic duties on breastfeeding. Method: The findings of the qualitative research on breastfeeding conducted in 2005 were presented. Results: In this study, it was identified that the challenge for women to fulfill the working life along with the responsibilities of private life in which there are expectations for childcare and domestic duties, affect their breastfeeding behavior negatively. Conclusion: On the basis of these findings to assure husbands attend the teaching sessions during antenatal period and postpartum discharge was recommended. Moreover, for the teaching sessions, to give positive and realistic information, and information on planning domestic duties, and sharing responsibility with husband are among the recommended topics. In order to give nursing care with a holistic approach it is necessary for nurses to comprehend the effect of domestic duties on breastfeeding.
