Abstract :
Purpose: This study was carried out to determine the validity and reliability of Turkish version of Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 to be developed for the purpose of the evaluation of nursing care quality by patients and nurses. Method: Performed as methodological research, the study was conducted on 240 patients operated on in the general surgery departments of two medicine faculty hospitals in Istanbul and on 103 nurses working in the settings. As a data pooling tool, identifying information form and Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 providing the assessment of nursing caring quality, were used for all patients and nurses. The data were used content validity index and confirmatory factor analysis in validity analysis, pearson moments correlation test and cronbach alpha reliability test in reliability analysis. Results: Content validity index of the scale was found to be 95%. Confirmatory factor analysis performed in order to evaluate structural validity confirmed this four-factor solution. Test-retest correlation results implemented for reliability analysis were 0.84 in patients and 0.82 in nurses. For all of the inventory, Cronbach Alpha score was 0.97 in patients and 0.96 in nurses; however, the score for lower dimensions was found to be between 0.89-0.93 in patients and 0.81-0.94 in nurses. Item-total score correlation in the inventory, including 24 items, was between 0.59-0.84 in patients and 0.53-0.85 in nurses and founded to be of statistically high significance in a positive way. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it has been determined that Turkish version of Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 is a valid and reliable instrument to be used in the evaluation of nursing care quality by patients and nurses in different hospital settings
