Abstract :
Objective: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted to determine exercise behaviours, self sufficiency levels of nurses and related factors. Methods: The universe of the study was consisted by nurses who work in GATA Haydarpasa Training Hospital and T. C. Ministry of Health Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital (N=776). No sample was selected and volunteer nurses are included to the study. Exercise benefit/barrier scale and self efficacy sufficiency scale were used for collecting data. Frequencies, percentage distribution, mean, standart deviation, chi-square test, correlation, and univariate variant analyses (ANOVA) were used for data analyses. Results: The rate of 69.2% of nurses do not exercise regularly. Most frequent reasons of not doing regular exercise are: lack of time (67.3%), work intensity (57.5%) and lack of desire to exercise (40.7%). The mean exercise benefit scale points were 89.3±11,6, the mean exercise barrier scale points were 31.4±5.4, the mean exercise benefit/barrier scale points were 120.7±10.4 and the mean self efficacy sufficiency scale points were 74.1±12.0. Exercise benefit perception was higher in nurses who have the possibility of doing exercise, and do regular and daily exercise (p 0.05). Exercise barrier perception were higher in nurses who do not have place for exercise, have an illness that not allow to exercise, do not exercise regularly or one-twice exercise weekly, uses regular medication, overweight and obeses (p 0.05). Finally, positive correlation between self efficacy sufficiency level and exercise benefit perception and negative correlation between self efficacy sufficiency level and barrier perception with a weak manner were found. Conclusion: Planning activities to increase nurses levels of self efficacy sufficiency and regulation of exercise program that is suitable for working conditions for doing regular exercise is required.
