The Patient Safety Practice of Midwife and Nurse Who Work in The Delivery Room Relating to The First Care of The Newborn
Abstract :
Objective: This study aims to examine that the patient safety practice of midwife and nurse who work in the delivery room relating to the first care of the newborn. Methods: The research of population compose of midwife and nurse working six hospitals located in Ankara. In the study, a questionnaire developed by the researchers was used. The guestionnaire consist of 62 questions is about socio-demographic characteristics of nurses and the patient safety practice in the first care of the newborn. Results: 41.7% of participants are undergraduate and %46,7 of them are graduate degree. Given the number of baby care by them is 3.63 per day. Considering to preparations be done quickly and smoothly in the delivery room for neonatal care; 56,7 % of them reportet that the delivery room cleaning is done before birth. 91,7% of them reported that preparation of materials to be used before birth. While 60% of midwife and nurse stated that preparing sterile pack, 61,7% them point out device control. Conclusion: Considering to the result of the study show that the measures taken by nurses and midwives is not sufficient for neonatal safety. Therefore, they should be evaluate and informed about neonatal safety.
