Abstract :
Objective: Orthopedic handicap is a condition that may negatively affect the daily life activities, physical and psychological health, social functions, and interpersonal relations of individuals, increase their dependence and thus, decrease their life quality and self-esteem and increase their anger levels. This study was conducted in an attempt to determine the constant anger and anger expression, self-respect and life satisfaction levels of orthopedically handicapped individuals. Material and Method: This study was conducted with 194 voluntary members who were registered to Erzurum Branch Directorate of the Turkish Handicap Association. Personal information form, Trait Anger-Anger Expression, Rosenberg Self-Esteem and Life Satisfaction Scales were used to collect the data. Results: Individuals who participated in the study had an age average of 37.24±12.52. Of the handicapped individuals, 17.5% had bachelor’s degree and 73.2% had social security. Handicapped individuals had a mean score of 20.28±6.64 in trait anger, 17.06±4.40 in anger expression, 16.75±4.11 in anger introversion, and 18.84±5.43 in anger control. This orthopedically handicapped group included in the study had a mean score of 1.90±1.46 in self-esteem and 19.04±6.35 in the life satisfaction scale. Conclusion: It was concluded that orthopedically handicapped individuals’ self-esteem and life satisfaction were high levels, personal characteristics such as education, economic condition, presence of social security and marital status were effective on levels of trait anger, and anger expressions, self-esteem and life satisfaction.
