Abstract :
Nef’î is one of the master poets of the classical Turkish literature. He has attracted attention with his life as well as his poems. His harsh, aggressive and unstable personality affected his life and poems considerably.Nef’î demonstrated a lot of contradictions in his poetry and personality. Among those contradictions are: He changed drastically position towards the people around him; while he praised the statesmen with exagger-ated words, at the same time he exalted his own ego constantly; on the one hand he wrote poems of highest character, on the other hand he was involved in vulgar quarrels. In this paper, with the purpose of answer-ing those contradictions and questions, it was tried to determine Nef’î’s perception of self, regarding his own poems. After that, compar-ing him with Necib Fazil -with whom he seems to share considerable similarities- and referring to the common points found out, it was tried to clarify Naf’i’s mentioned contra-dictions and inexplicable attitudes.
