Abstract :
1946 was the beginning of an era of important developments in Turkey’s political, social, and religious domains and from this year onwards Turkey’s social and political situation made it necessary to reconsider teaching religion as part of education. Of course, the most important change that took place with the transition to multiparty system was that religious training had been allowed again in 1946. However, as of this date, one of the most important issues of political agenda has been religious education. Between 1946-1960, courses on religion which had previously been removed from the curriculum, were restarted at Primary and Secondary school, the Imam-Hatip Courses later reopened as Imam-Hatip Schools, Faculty of Theology was reestablished as part of the university and the High Islamic Institute was founded. 1946-1960 has shown that the validity of religion and religious education policies has not lost their importance and retained their characteristic of being closed to opposite standing. From this period onwards, religious education-teaching began to have an outlook which was developed by the state.
