Abstract :
This paper deals with the effects of globalization concept, today’s one of the most disputable subjects, on culture and art as well as the debates on this subject. Firstly, the stress has been laid on the feature of globalization, which is regarded as an outlet for the alterations in the fields of culture and art. Then, national culture and art have been related to the globalization concept which dominates their being local and universal, and the contradictions about the case have been included. As well as being disputable, the effect of globalization on art and culture is an important issue to be taken into account carefully. As for its being an important matter of debate, it stems from fact that the effect of globalization process on culture and art is apparent. Globalization is often perceived as ‘the universal ideology of our present day’. In the process of globalization, the effect of modernism and Post-modernism on culture and art is a concept which tends to be negative and it can be pointed out that this trend is referred with the expressions of ‘Is that?’, ‘Is this?’ or ‘against that’, ‘against this’. Although Post-modernism may be seen as an attitude against modernism, most of the views that it advocates are seen as sequents of modernism. Turkish artists and scholars today act with the conscious of these contradictions being undergone in the process of globalization. And they are on the eve of creating universal masterpieces not by being unfamiliar to the contemporary era that they are living in but by putting on the equipments and knowledge that the era requires.
