Abstract :
Turkish is a rich language in terms of converb suffixes. In Turkish, some converb suffixes have been used as main converb suffixes (-(I)p, -ken etc.) from the very beginning of Turkish literature. On the other hand, some converb suffixes have gradually developed into becoming inflexible of different suffixes through the historical development of Turkish. {-mAĠIn} is one such suffix which is a merger of two suffixes; the infinitive suffix {-mAk} and instrumental suffix {-I-n}. In this study, from Uighur Turkish period to early 20th century the use of {-mAĠIn} was analysed and it was found that the suffix was used in functions of purpose, state and, most abundantly, cause. Since the most dominant function of this suffix which used generally -especially in Classic Ottoman Turkish- in Anatolian field seems to bu cause, it is entitled to be named cause converb suffix.
