Abstract :

The concept proverb in Turkish is compared with “мaқaл-мәтел/maqal-mätel” concept in Kazakh language.The terms “maqal” and “mätel” are also used separately, in fact, they are equivalents of Russian concepts“пословицa/poslovitsa” and “поговоркa/pogovorka”. The distinction between “maqal” and “mätel” in Kazakh language also exists in almost all modern Turkic languages. However, this distinction in Turkish has been truly pointed to only by one or two linguists. In this article it was first focused on the origin of the words in Kazakh “maqal” and “mätel”, the equivalents of these words in modern Turk languages have been determined. Then “maqal” and “mätel” terms were defined, the similarities and differences were shown. Also, as the result of findings, “maqal” and “mätel” samples in Kazakh were given. In this study, on the other hand, the Turkish “atasözü” term was discussed, having made distinction between the terms “atasözü” and “aydım”, examples of both types were given.
