The Empathy Method: A Suggestion On A Way Of Reading Text
Abstract :
Literary texts can be read and analyzed in a variety of ways. The critic chooses one of those available to him/her freely. The issue here is how far the aim of the reader corresponds with the text itself. The problematic concerning the method used in how to approach and handle a literary text is in direct correlation with the views, the conceptions and the desired aims of the critic. In conjunction with this, objective reality is set aside and a creative, fictional and subjective paradigm is created- namely a second text. In this second text, reality takes on visual and momentary dimensions as with surrealist creations and mutates and takes the form of a suprareality. In this derived text conscious and reality are dissected and recreated. The critic is his/her conception process purifies and changes this reality and recreates a new one. This suprareal paradigm is actually the artistic and literary aspects of the text. This is a new way of viewing objective reality. This is an artistic and creative endeavor. This is a reflection of the artistic beyond the confines of concrete and objective realities. In the paradigm text the text is approached with an intuitive perspective as opposed to an objective one. This is the establishment of a subjective, personal and superfictive bond between writer and reader. This entails moving beyond the objective and concrete text. This method of analysis allows the critic aesthetic, artistic and dramatic freedom. The initial literary work is re-written as a text. The critic thus becomes the protagonist and the producer.
