  • Abstract
Free Republican Party was founded on August 12, 1930. It is the second opposition party in Republic of Turkey. It drew a great interest across the country. Its founder Ali Fethi Okyar received letters and telegrams from all over Turkey. This great interest led to the SCF to be organized in Turkey very quickly. Eskişehir also paid a similar attention and it became one of the cities in which SCF were organized in a short time. In this study, how and by whom SCF was founded in Eskişehir and its towns is discussed on the basis of archival documents. Municipal elections were held in Turkey in September 1930. Two different parties participated in the elections for the first time. The election between SCF and People s Party was a controversial one. How the elections in Eskişehir were held is discussed on the archives.
