Abstract :
Mr. Necmettin Sadık is one of the Turkey’s first sociologists who at the same time practiced journalism during the last periods of Ottoman Empire, National Struggle, and the Republican Era after which he entered into politics. Nevertheless, he regarded himself as more of a journalist in his multifaceted life. After having been educated in France in sociology, he came back to Turkey and assisted Ziya Gökalp, thereafter held the Chair of Sociology in Istanbul University. He became one of the primary exponents of Durkheim’s sociology and issued the “İçtimaiyât” journal. However, he was rather known as a journalist instead of being an original sociologist. On the days when Turkish state and nation were at the threshold of destruction, through his writings he, who undertook the duty of guiding administers and society, became a journalist defending the right of Turkish Nation to live independently at every opportunity. He was one of the few journalists who was in İstanbul during the Armistice Period and supported the Anatolian Movement. He witnessed the most significant political and social events of the period by attending Armistice of Mudanya and Treaty of Lausanne as a journalist and he entered into politics after 1927 but continued to the profession of journalism until 1950.
