Abstract :
Our African authors, N’krumah, Chek Anta Diop, Senghor… along with many African headsof States have made African unity as a necessity for the economic development of thecontinent. To ensure this unity, N’krumah has recommended the birth of a true and authenticAfrican philosophy, in other words, an African ideology as if economic development resultsfrom unity. However, history has taught us that it is rather from economic development that results unity.Union is a consequence of economic development. It is indeed the economic developmentthat leads to the necessity to unite. Hence, in the antiquity, the Greek united when theyreached a certain level of economic development. Otherwise, before that Greek cities werewarring entities. Similarly, Europe had found its way to union as a result of capitalist societyand industrialization, otherwise before these events, Western communities were onlywitnessing wars and famine. It appears, thus, that union comes after economic development.Henceforth, do African societies necessarily need to unite for their economic development?
