Agricultural Use of Sludge and Its Fertilizer Value
Abstract :
The main goal in sustainable soil fertility is developing the soil characteristics. When our soils are examinated the soils have shown some features (calcium carbonate, pH, organic matter etc.) which prevent plant growing and soil fertility. In this purpose, the rehabilitation of these negative features are needed as well as elimination of soil nutrient deficiencies with chemical fertilizers. Therefore some organic fertilizers are being used one the purpose of being improved organic matter content of soils. But in our country because of the limited organic fertilizer resources we can think to use savage sludge as a organic matter resource. Sewage sludge contains high organic matter N, P some other plant nutrients. When these characteristics’ are taken into consideration, sewage sludge is seen as a good fertilizer and soil regulator. But in the application of these sludges to soils there are some disadvantages and limitations depending on sludge features.
