The hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycanwhich is synthesized in the plasmamembrane of many cells. Its metabolismis regulated by hyaluronan synthases andhyaluronidases. It is an essential componentof synovial fluid responsible for its lubricityand its damping properties. In addition toits structural role, hyaluronic acid regulatesthe immune response, angiogenesis, inflammation and the tissue healing. Thereare two methods for obtaining hyaluronicacids used in therapeutic: bacterialfermentation and extraction from cock crest. This polysaccharide has distinguishingphysiochemical properties which inspireits application throughout several fields ofmedicine especially in rheumatology.
