Cultural Identity and Mass Media: Moroccan Youth at the Crossroads
Abstract :
The purpose of this article is to examine the major methodological frameworks that have been adopted in the investigation of the Moroccan culture and identity, outline the core traditional cultural values and shed light on the role of dominant media practices in the construction of mainstream value orientations of young Moroccans. Amongst the major conclusions of this paper is that empirical research on distinctive Moroccan cultural values is still awfully lacking. We also contend that locally mediated communication is contributing substantially to the deterioration of traditional family values.
