Abstract
Financial crisis that was occurred in USA in 2008 affected all micro and macroeconomic units in different degrees by expanding into a global level. The degree of this effect can vary between nations, industries and enterprises. In this study, in macro level, reflections of 2008 global financial crisis on the world and Turkish economy and effects of the crisis on manufacturing businesses which are the basic dynamics of economies are studied by gathering data from different institutions. Then the extent of effects of global financial crisis on financial structures of manufacturing industry enterprises traded at Borsa Istanbul (Istanbul Stock Exchange) is analyzed with the help of financial analyses method. In this context, effects of the crisis on manufacturing industry are identified by analyzing financial statements of 145 public companies in 8 sectors and 23 sub-sectors of Borsa Istanbul between the years 2005 and 2011. Automotive, iron-steel and textile industries that produce mainly for exportation are deeply affected by the crisis. The study is completed by determining micro level effects of the crisis by a case study of financial statements of a sample business in automotive industry which is rapidly and negatively affected by this process.
