THE EFFECT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CLIMATE ON PERCEIVED ORGANIZATIONAL POLITICS: A RESEARCH IN PUBLIC SECTOR
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between organizational climate and perceived organizational politics. To that end, a cross-sectional and exploratory research design was adopted, and a questionnaire form consisting of research instruments and demographic questions was developed. The survey data were collected from a sample of 264 public sector employees working in İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir the three biggest metropolitan cities through snowball sampling. The reliability of the research instruments was confirmed and they were factor analyzed. The correlations between all research scales were tested and further regression analyses were conducted to analyze research hypotheses. According to the analyses, there is a significantly high negative correlation between organizational climate and perceived organizational politics. Moreover, almost 50% of the variance in perceived organizational politics is explained by perceptions of organizational climate. The analyses are iterated on all subscales, and the significantly negative correlations are observed between perceived organizational politics and organizational climate subscales as well. The findings are discussed considering both theoretical contributions and practical implications.
