Abstract :
Aim. Second primary tumours represent one of the major causes of failure in the teatment of head and neck cancer. In this study we aimed to identify second primary malignites percents in patients which treated for laryngeal carsinoma. Methods. This is a retrospective analysis in 629 patients which treated for laryngeal carcinomas in our clinic between 1985- 2008. Results. Distribution of cases according to the localization of larynx; were detected as 54.4% supraglottic, 40.1% glottic and 5.5% transglottic. Second primary tumours was obtained in 16 patients. Except one all of them was in patients which has supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma (93.7%). The 68.7 percent of second primary tumours was detected in lung. İn our study second primary tumour insidanse was 2.37%. Conclusion. To remove all doubts the surgeon must take a biopsy and confirme that it is metastasis or second primary carcinoma. The treatment planning with these findings, was absolute positive impact on survival.
