Affectıng Factors’s Analissis of Red and Whıte Meat Consumption in İstanbulProvince Kucuk Cekmece Dıstrıct
Abstract :
The data gathered for this study was obtained from one to one interview with400 households in Kucuk Cekmece district of Istanbul. Sample size of the study was determined with Unclustered Probability Sampling Method. The secondary data showed that Per capita consumption of beef and veal meat was 4.5 kg, sheep and goat meat consumption was 4.5 kg, poultry meat consumption was 16 kg and fish meat consumption was 10 kg in Turkey. This study focused on demographic factors effective on white meat and red meat consumption of households. Regression analysis revealed that while household income increases, both the red and white meat consumption are increasing. Women are consuming red meat and white meat more efficient than men. If households are homeowners, they consume red meat more, other holders consume white meat more. As people’s age increase, white meat consumption also increase and red meat consumption decrease in households. Higher education levels decreases white and red meat consumption in households. As the number of individuals increase, red meat consumption decrease and white meat consumption increase. When head’s occupation is worker, red meat consumption decrease and when the head’s occupation is businessman, white meat consumption increases. Not only in Istanbul’s Kucuk Cekmece district but also in a large part of Turkey nutrition is mainly based on vegetable. Turkey is known to be a leading country in animal husbandry, but it is surprising to observe that animal nutrition consumption is very low. Therefore families must be informed about the benefits of animal food sources through mass media so that consumers can take more food of animal origin.
