DETERMINATION OF THE BEST FIT DISTRIBUTIONS FOR DAILY MAXIMUM PRECIPITATIONS MEASURED AT THE CITY CENTERS OF SAMSUN, SINOP, ORDU AND TOKAT
Abstract :
To built safe water structures, forecasts of the values of project floods, thereby the values of precipitation are needed to be estimated properly. This can be made with the function of best fit distribution to the series of spot precipitation. The aim of this study is to determine the best fit distributions among 32 continuous probable distributions for the daily maximum precipitation values measured at the meteorological stations of DSI Region VII located in the city center of Samsun, Sinop, Ordu and Tokat during the last 80 years. For this purpose, the FRANMOD model was also employed. In the result; the statistics of average deviation, coefficient of efficiency, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, average deviation from 1-1 line and Anderson-Darling gave different distributions prominence from station to station. When the distribution which became prominent mostly in the statistical analyses were considered, it was found that the daily maximum precipitations of Samsun and Sinop could be represented much better by the Wakeby distribution, the data of Ordu province by beta-P, and the data of Tokat province by both Wakeby and beta-P.
