Title Of Article :
THE IMPORTANCE OF ORIENTATION OF THE BLOCK AND PARCEL IN LAND CONSOLIDATION
Abstract :
The objective of this study was to evaluate response of parcel orientation on crop yield and yield characteristics. The study was carried out on second crop maize in Bafra District of Samsun province in 2001 and 2002 years. The experiment was established at four different directions (east-west, north-south, northeast-southwest and northwest-southeast) containing the plots with 70x12 cm row spacing and row planting distances in three replications. The result of the study revealed that the parcels constructed on N-S and NW-SE orientations seem to be more advantageous in terms of plant growth and yield. For this reason, during block planning in Land Consolidation, if the short axis of any block is created towards the NS direction (or the long axis of any block is on the EW direction), in this case, the long side of the plots created will be in the NS direction, hence significant gains might be expected in agricultural production comparing the other directions. On the other hand, when it is considered that the second highest yield is obtained from the NW-SE direction, it can be mentioned that the zone between N-S and NW-SE directions is a zone of optimal directions in the block planning in land consolidation. This information may provide important flexibility to the planner during the block planning.
