Abstract :
In this study, the effects of shading on Net Assimilation Rate (NAR) and Relative Growth Rate (RGR) of ‘Camarosa’ and ‘Sweet Charlie’ strawberry cultivars under the three environmental conditions such as unshaded plastic greenhouse (GC), continuously shaded plastic greenhouse (CS) and the open field (O) were examined. Differences with respect to cultivars in the effects of treatments upon the NAR and RGR were determined. The ‘Camarosa’ had higher NAR and RGR than the ‘Sweet Charlie’ cultivars in the present study. Generally in the ‘Camarosa’ cultivar, NAR and RGR in the grown at continuously shaded plants were low in the beginning of growing period while at the end of the growing period were high. In the ‘Sweet Charlie’ cultivar, the plants grown at continuously shaded had lower NAR than the others in the whole growing periods. In the continuously shaded plants of this cultivar, RGR was high at the beginning of growing period while RGR was lower than the plants grown in the greenhouse control and open field as from on 27 April. NAR and RGR of the ‘Camarosa’ and the ‘Sweet Charlie’ cultivars increased from beginning of growing period to 10 October and decreased from 10 October to 6 January. NAR and RGR generally increased from 6 January to 7 April in both cultivars, from this date (7 April) to end of growing period, while NAR and RGR increased in the ‘Camarosa’ and decreased in the ‘Sweet Charlie’. As a result of this study, the effects of different environmental conditions upon NAR and RGR changed with respect to strawberry cultivars.
