Abstract :
Mentha spicata subsp. spicata is a medicinal and aromatic plant. In order to propagate Mentha spicatasubsp. spicata in vitro, hypocotyl explants were cultured in MS medium containing differentcombinations of BAP and NAA supplemented with 3% sucrose and solidified with 0.65% agar. Theresults showed a significant interaction between BAP and NAA combinations for callus formationpercentage, shoot regeneration percentege, number of shoots and roots per explant, shoot and root length.Maximum callus regeneration percentage was noted in MS medium containing 0.25 mg/L BAP + 0.50mg/L NAA, maximum shoot regeneration percentage was noted in MS medium containing 2 mg/L BAP + 0.25 mg/L NAA, Maximum number of shoot per explant was noted in MS medium containing 2 mg/LBAP, maximum number of shoot lenght was noted in MS medium supplemented with 2 mg/L BAP + 0.50 mg/L NAA. The regenerated shoots were rooted on MS medium containing 0.5 mg/L IBA.
