Abstract :
This study was carried out to determine the in vitro gas production values, gas production parameters, organicmatter digestibilities (OMD), metabolizable energy (ME), net energy lactation (NEL) and chemicalcomposition of 12 different legume forages grown as naturally in the pastures of Erzurum province. In present study, clover, (Medicago sativa), crssbred clover (Medicago varia), mountain hispanic sainfoin (Hedysarum elegans), bird vetch (Vicia cracca), hairy vetch (Vicia villosa), mountain vetch (Vicia alpestris), mountain clover (Trifolium montanum), caucasian clover (Trifolium ambiguum), the three-headed clover (Trifolium trichocephalum), tawny grass crown (Coronilla varia), the crown of the eastern horn of grass (Coronilla orientatis) and yellow flowers gazelle (Lotus corniculatus) were investigated as grass forage. The rumen fluid used in gas production technique was taken from the rumen of a 8 years old rumen-cannulated Holstein bull. Gas productions were determined after 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h incubations. It wasobserved that the highest and the lowest IVGU values were determined for mountain wetch (65.33 ml) andthe three-headed clover (32.82 ml), respectively. The highest and the lowest c values from gas productionparameters were found as 0.14 ml/h and 0.05 ml/h for caucasian clover and mountain hispanic sainfoin. While highest and the lowest OMS values were for mountain vetch (75.91%) and crossbred clover (50.99%),the highest and lowest ME and NEL values were determined for mountain vetch (10.93-6.78 MJ/kg) and three-headed clover (6.90-3.80 MJ/kg), respectively.
