Determination of some biological parameters of Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on different eggplant cultivars
Abstract :
In this study, some biological parameters of Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on different eggplant (Solanum melongina L.) cultivars (Aydin Siyahi and B.T Aykara F₁ Hibrit), which arecommonly grown in Samsun Province, was investigated under laboratory conditions. A. gossypii completed its development process in 5.04 days on eggplant cultivar (cv.) ‘Aydin Siyahi’ on theaverage, while it completed its process in 5.02 days on cv. ‘Aykara’. The study showed that 98% of the individuals on cv. Ankara Siyahi became adults, whereas 88% of them on cv. Aykara reached to the adult stage. It was observed that the reproduction period of A. gossypii was completed in 13.06 days on cv. Aydin Siyahi and 14.31days on cv. Aykara, and total longevity period of female adult was determined as 26.42 days on cv. Aydin Siyahi and 25.57 days on cv. Aykara. The mean numbers of offspring determined were 54.62 and 50.05 nymph individuals on cv. Aydin Siyahi and Aykara, respectively. The intrinsic reproduction ability (rm) was calculated as 0.392 aphid/ aphid/ day on cv. Aydin Siyahi while it was calculated as 0.372 aphid/aphid/day on cv. Aykara. In conclusion; some biological parameters of A. gossypii were determined in relation to eggplant cultivars, and it was found that cv. Aydin Siyahi was the most convenient eggplant cultivar in terms of the life cycle of A. gossypii comparing to cv. Aykara.
