Abstract :
During the harvest and post-harvest processing, fruits as all agriculture materials go through several processes. During these processes, fruits remain under the influence of either static or dynamic external forces. It is necessary to analyze the impacts that occur during harvesting and post harvest operations in order to determine these forces which cause damage and reduce product losses. The aim of this study is to determine relationship between bruising and impact parameters of some varieties of peach, which has an important production potential in Turkey. In this study, Glohaven, J. H. Hale and Loring peach varieties, which have been being grown in Samsun province, were used as experiment materials. Testing equipment, which involved a pendulum having the arm length of 50 cm, was set up to conduct the experiment. Three impact surfaces were selected to represent impact situations as padding material. They were steel, poron and vinlex. Impact tests were performed using six different drop heights between 10 and 120 mm. In the experiment, peaches were impacted from their two different surfaces for creating bruising areas. After the impact tests, bruising areas were measured. Afterpeach experiment, the data of peak acceleration and velocity changes of the electronic fruit (IS) were recorded by dropping the IS from the same drop heights onto the same impact surfaces. The relationships between the composed bruising area on the peach surface and recorded IS values of peak accelerationvelocity changes were analyzed.
