Abstract :
Workability of soils in suitable moisture condition is essential in order to maintain sustainability of agricultural production and natural resources. This study was carried out with the aim of determining the most suitable moisture content and workability time of soils in Dedeli and Çetinkaya villages’ area and close area,s about 1762.4 ha, located in Bafra- Samsun. Land units and required some soil data of the study area were taken from detailed soil map. By taking into consideration of land use and soil properties, total 50 disturbed soil samples were collected from 0-20 cm soil depth. In these soil samples, some soil properties such as texture, organic matter (OM), field capacity (FC), plastic limit (PL), licit limit (LL) and coefficient of lineal extensibility (COLE) were analyzed and plastic (PI) and consistency indexes were also calculated (Ic). The values of Ic were evaluated to determine workability in the most suitable moisture for each soil series in detailed soil map . Furthermore, the kriging maps, which show the most suitable moisture values for workability times of each soil serial, were produced by evaluating of Ic values by using geostatistical and GIS techniques.The produced kriging map showed that the tillage practices applied under unsuitable moisture conditions would lead to serious damages in soil texture in most of the soil series found in study area. In order to decrease destruction of soil structure in unsuitable moisture condition when applied soil tillage in the study area, it should be takenپ into consideration of soil moisture condition for each soil workability time.
