Determination of viruses causing infection in spinach fields in Samsun province

Abstract
To detect viruses infecting spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) and find out their distribution in Samsunprovince, 100 plant samples including distortion, curling of leaves, chlorotic lesion, and mosaic onleaves and stunting symptoms were collected from the fields in villages of Bafra, and Carsamba districtsduring November 2014 - January 2015. At the end of the surveys, Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), andTurnip mosaic virus (TuMV) were detected in 8 % and 3 % by ELISA, respectively. This is the firstrecord of CMV and TuMV infecting spinach in Samsun province. In the research area, none of thesamples collected were infected with Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), and Tobacco mosaic virus(TMV).
