Analysis of factors affecting red meat demand of households living in Bingol city center
Abstract :
In this study consumption habits of meat and meat products and the factors influencing them areinvestigated for households in the central province of Bingol. Level of the household income spendingon food, quantities of red meat consumption, decision-making and purchasing processes regarding redmeat are put forward. In the determination of sample size, proportional sampling method was used andthe sample size was calculated as 175. Data were collected through face to face interviews withrandomly selected individuals using a structured questionnarie. Chi-square test (χ2) and F-test wereused in assessing the statistical significance of the relationship between variables. According to thesurvey; it was found that 88 % of the participants consumed meat. Significant correlations were foundbetween red meat consumption state and income level (P 0.05). Season, with 35.6 %, is defined to bethe most important reason that raises the red meat consumption frequency of households. “Beingdelicious” factor is found to be largely effective (48.9 %) in red meat preference of households.
