EVALUATION OF COMMON ALDER LEAVES AS DYESTUFF SOURCE IN TEXTILE INDUSTRY
Abstract :
In this study, the usage of common alder leaves as natural source of dyestuff in the textile industry was investigated for the purpose of creation of a constant source of natural dyeing and it provides a significant contribution to the country s economy. In this concept, wool and cotton fibers were subjected to pre-mordanting, meta-mordanting and post-mordanting processes in the presence of FeSO4 and AlK(SO4)2 mordants. The studies were carried out using 2 different pH values for each type of fibers. Color analyses of the dyed materials were done and the results were evaluated in terms of wash, rubbing and light fastness values. According to the test results, it is detected that cotton fabrics exhibited better dyeing potential than wool fabrics and highest color strength values were obtained using post-mordanting method. For cotton fibers, high color strength values were obtained in the presence of FeSO4 mordant, especially in alkali medium.
